（檳城13日訊）馬華檳州聯委會秘書楊征家，呼吁檳州政府放棄輕快鐵（LRT）計劃，轉為建設成本較低及覆蓋範圍更廣的快速公交系統（Bus Rapid Transit，BRT）來解決州內的交通問題。
他今日針對檳州政府堅決興建輕快鐵計劃而召開記者會。他說，BRT低成本、興建快且覆蓋範圍更廣泛，並可帶動城市中的步行及腳車活動，很適合檳城。

“BRT系統只需一年時間就可建好，州政府也不需靠聯邦政府撥款，就可負擔相關經費。”

塞車 is caused by stupid traffic lights ; >½ of traffic lights ( on Pg island, PW & Kedah ) are stupid.
E.g. in Bndr Baru Air Itam @ Jln Thean Teik & Angsana’s junction, or @ Jln Jelutong & Sg Pinang, or @ Jln Air Itam ‘s junction below the flyover over Jln Air Itam ( north east of state mosque ), or @ Jln Raja Uda & Siram ( in Butterworth ), or @ Lencongan Timor & Jln Kempas ( in Sg Petani, Kedah ), only 1 road’s traffic can proceed ( incl turning right ) during each green light. If duration of each green light is x, then the maximum waiting time before any of 4 traffic lights turns green is 3x.
If (i) opposite roads’ traffic can both go straight during a green light, (ii) turnings right, from 2 opposite roads ( e.g. from north to west side of junction, & from south to east side of junction ) are allowed during a subsequent green light, then during each green light, 2 roads’ traffic can proceed, like the junction between Jln P Ramli & Jln Sg Pinang ( both north-south & east-west traffic lights are correct ).
If time allowed for (ii) above is 30% of (i), then the total time used to clear 2 opposite roads’ traffic is 1.3x, ( i.e. just 65% of present 2x ) : this was done in Apr’18 @ Lbhraya Thean Teik’s east-west junction with Jln Angsana. This system can reduce waiting time @ 3-road junctions ( e.g. east-west traffic @ north & south ends of Jln Sir Ibrahim, Pg island ) too.
@ these 4-road junctions, maximum waiting time for going straight, will be 0.3x + 1.3x = 1.6x ( i.e. just 53.3% of present 3x ). Maximum waiting time for turning right, will be 1.3x + 1x = 2.3x ( i.e. just 76.6% of present 3x ).
Traffic from Jln Sg Pinang ( north west of junction ) must wait for a green light to turn left into Jln Jelutong ( north east of junction ) ; no separate left turn, or green light, exists : often hundreds of vehicles must queue & wait for a green light, & same on south west side ( Jln Jelutong ) of this junction. Wasted time reduce productivities, wasted fuel burnt cause more heat & CO2 produced. Tourists & investors can see how thick local govnmnts are ( 3rd world like ) & feel sick.
